Religion - Max Lucado's Style
By Keith Greer

To many millions of religious readers he is a writer that touches their hearts. Max Lucado has written over fifty books, that have sold thirty-three million copies. He is the minister of the Oak Hill Church in San Antonio, Texas. In October of last year Mr. Lucado convinced the elders of the church to drop the name "Church of Christ" to something that would not alienate people. Attendance jumped from 3,300 to 4,500. By the way, he claims to be a member and preacher of the Church of Christ. Personally speaking, I'm not impressed. Instead I'm dumbfounded that many millions have been taken in by this arrogant theologian. What Mr. Lucado has done is created his own religion. Let me show you how.

Only answerable to men. When asked about the uproar among the churches of Christ about his doctrines his answer, "I really have given up on trying to answer, or even please everybody else. I don't think we're called to do that." Statement made in an interview promoting his new book "It's Not About Me." He also believes he answers to no one accept the elders of the Oak Hill church where he has ministered for sixteen years.

Sadly, he is mistaken. "For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad." {2 Corinthians 5:10} Mr. Lucado believes he can change, alter and amend the word of God to his liking without giving any thought to his duty to God.

Changes the teaching of baptism. Mr. Lucado views baptism as important but not essential to redemption. In a radio broadcast a few years ago he asked the listening audience to recite the "sinner's prayer" and enter a relationship with Jesus! Does Mr. Lucado have some "new information" on the subject? Jesus said it would save man, Mark 16:16. Peter said it saves us, 1 Peter 3:21. Paul told us that it puts one into Christ and that is where all spiritual blessings are found, Galatians 3:26,27; Ephesians 1:3. Paul told the church in Rome that we are buried into His death where the blood is, Romans 6:1-7. Why is that important? According to Leviticus 17:11-life is in the blood. Eternal life is in the blood of Christ-that He offered to His Father as payment for sin, Hebrews 9:28. According to 1 Corinthians 12:13, baptism places us into the one body, the church. According to Max Lucado one doesn't need the blood, the spiritual blessings, no need to put on Christ, and no reason to be in the one body!

Max Lucado hasn't gone far enough in taking the name off the church in San Antonio. He needs to cease calling himself a gospel preacher because what he is teaching is a perversion of the truth, Galatians 1:7-9!

While the religion of Max Lucado may increase the attendance at the church in San Antonio he better enjoy it-that's all he will get. Unfortunately, Mr Lucado is allowing his money and fame to cost him his soul and the untold thousands he is misleading with his "own religion." He is not only ashamed of the Lord's church-He is ashamed of the Lord who bought it with His own blood! No thank you-I'll stick with the Lord!
